Mr. Springs was a former teacher, assistant principal, and principal of the alternative charter high school Covenant House Academy of Detroit. His caring attitude and willingness to help all students made him a favorite at the school. His strength was in working one-on-one with the students and helping them to see their strengths and achieve their educational goals. Not only would Mr. Springs frequently stay after school to tutor, he would also make home visits, provide transportation, and provide resources for those students who needed it. He was instrumental in the graduation of hundreds of students who wouldn’t have otherwise done so.
Mr. Springs then utilized the skills he gained at Covenant House Academy to help develop Flex High School of Michigan in Flint. In less than three years, Mr. Springs helped grow the school from one temporary location with five students to two permanent school buildings with over 200 students. Mr. Springs built a culture of helpfulness and dedication among the staff to treat all students as individuals, build up their strengths, eliminate outside barriers, and help build their skills.
Now Mr. Springs is bringing those same principles to the M Training Center. He will create a collaborative atmosphere in which students will identify their strengths, develop their work-ready skills, and prepare for a career. He is excited to use his ability to develop relationships and work one-on-one with people to eliminate barriers and coach them up to a career. His community mindedness will make the M Training Center an asset for the city of Detroit.
